ICMSS09 will be an excellent opportunity to discuss the latest developments in this vital area of research and regulation, and to analyse their significance. Our aim is to stimulate discussion in the worldwide community working on shellfish safety, leading to productive new research initiatives and sound recommendations for the future. Conference topics will include epidemiology, risk assessment, toxin monitoring, analytical methods in microbiology and biochemistry, consumer health protection, management of farming/harvesting areas, post-harvest treatment, and the macro-economic analysis of repercussions of shellfish-farming crises. We would like to make this conference an exciting forum for scientists, regulators and producers, which will make an important contribution to limiting health risks associated with microbiological, toxinic and chemical contamination of coastal areas.
